About Me
My name is Kyriaki (Sandy) Venetis. I am a journalist, and this is a website that I developed and write. I decided to take on this endeavor because I have always loved the great outdoors.
I am a first generation Greek-American, and I spent my summers growing up on my grandfather’s farm on the island of Chios in Greece. With my grandfather’s passing, my family went to the more modern and less environmentally friendly way of doing things. So, there is no longer any farm.
I was primarily raised in a suburb of New York City, where I still reside. Straight out of college, I went to work as a reporter, writing for a mortgage trade publishing group.
After a lot of soul searching, I decided to leave and start a career writing about something that actually matters to me. So now, I work doing something that I love, and I hope you do find it useful.
For fun, I love to go hiking, read, and spend time with friends. I am currently a member of the Sierra Club and the Appalachian Mountain Club (a hiking group).
