PHILADELPHIA- The classic 1940s baseball-inspired fashion boutique Vintage Blue is in the process of launching its current product lines and developing those in the works to exclusively use eco-friendly materials, according to Liza Goncalves and Michelle D’Avella, the company’s co-owners.

The boutique’s product lines are currently tee shirts and totes. Ms. Goncalves talked about the company’s tee shirts, explaining that they are “now 100 percent organic cotton and we use non-toxic, water-based dyes for the printing on our products.”

The boutique is also in the process to designing a green line of dresses, sweat suits, and hoodies, all with a vintage theme inspired by its exclusive licensing of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League brand. Currently, the company expects to roll out this new line in the Spring of 2010, according to Ms. D’Avella.

Talking about the inspiration for the company’s baseball inspired theme, Ms. Goncalves said, “We came across All-American Girls League when we were looking for a sports organization to partner with and loved everything they stood for. We loved their vision of women’s empowerment; women standing up for their rights; and going against the grain. We also thought that they had a really great style.”

Ms. D’Avella added, “then we based our designs and images off of their different teams. We have a tee shirt that says, “No Crying in Baseball” that was a famous line that Tom Hanks said in the movie A League of Their Own. We drew a lot of inspiration from the movie and the actual teams, which we put into the collection.”

Forecasting into the future, Ms. D’Avella says that the company also plans to expand into collections inspired by other sports themes such “surfing and roller derby,” possibly by 2011.

Currently, the company’s product lines can be found on its website at vintage-blue.com, as well as Arcadia Boutique, Northern Liberties, Pa., Charlie’s Jean, Old City Philadelphia, Bodega, Boston, and Strada Verde, Mckinney, Texas.
